![]() ![]() ![]() In this competition series, a group of strangers are thrown together to live in a house together. The longest running versions are the Spanish and American versions. Several different versions of the series have been created in different international markets around the world. The more dramatic, controversial, or otherwise provocative a cast member is, the more likely he or she is to be the one who is talked about. The premise of the series, in fact, encourages contestants to be as outrageous as possible in order to stand out. Of course, the resulting drama is a great marketing tool for the series. Contestants have been shown engaging in sexist, racist, violent, and otherwise problematic behavior more than once during the course of the series. Not only does intimate behavior sometimes show up on camera, so does potentially embarrassing and damaging conduct. The broad access given to viewers has led to controversy over the years. The show exploits the fact that the cast's most intimate moments are shown to the audience to market the series in the most titillating way possible. Although the reality TV formula in which strangers live together in a house is not new, Big Brother is notable for being the first series in which contestants are not able to escape the ever present cameras. Cameras placed around the house record all the drama and backstabbing for our viewing pleasure. ![]() Each week, one of the contestants will be eliminated from the competition until only one winner remains. ![]()
